The 2004 has a beautiful, deep purple color with a clean nose with notes of fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant) toast, tobacco, flowers (violets) and
spices. A full attack, a tight-knit, velvety texture on the palate, offering also a great suppleness. The finish is long, persistent and gives out lingering notes of toast and fruits.
The blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot has resulted in one of the deepest-colored efforts yet produced by this estate. Low acidity, no hints of over-ripeness, and fabulously pure black currant, blackberry, licorice, and underbrush characteristics cascade over the palate with no hard edges. The color of the 2004 is deep in color, with a lovely hint of garnet. The nose is complex, its numerous traits dominated by a note of fresh black fruits (blackberries, black cherries) but also with an elegant touch. The attack is gentle and supple, full and generous in the mouth thereafter, and finally yielding true voluptuous sensations in a very long finish. It seems to be a great Ducru, able to reach great heights!

There is a huge wealth of ripe fruit here, with a dense, savoury, macerated style. It has a sweet pastille-like intensity, but a savoury rather than sweet style, complicated by notes of tar and violets. A very serious palate follows, packed with dry and perhaps rather woody tannins, but there is plenty of fruit to match. A powerful wine which will need a lot of cellar time.
"From bottle the 2003 is showing as well as can be expected. A soft, sexy, near-term style of claret with a deep plum/ruby/purple-tinged color, a big, sweet nose of anise, creme de cassis, smoke, Provencal herbs, and some spice box, it is opulent, fleshy, not profoundly concentrated, but rich enough. Everything is nicely balanced with silky tannin and low acidity. Drink it over the next 12-14 years as this is a seductive wine."

A strong effort for Talbot, the 2005 is more showy and forward than most wines of this vintage. While there is plenty of tannin, it is sweet and well-concealed behind an intriguing bouquet of sweet herbs, licorice, smoked game, black currants, and cherries. This fleshy, medium to full-bodied St.-Julien exhibits a silky sweetness to its texture and tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020+.

When the wine is rotated, more gourmet aromas of fruit appear (griotte cherry and blackberry jam), interwoven with the flavor of brioche.
