DESCRIPTION

For many Port producers a Twenty Years Old is the ideal age for an old tawny. This period of maturation produces balance between the gentle “nuttiness” gained from many years in oak casks and the vigor of youthful fruit.

Varietal

Port is a fortified red or white wine from the remote vineyards in Portugal's northern Douro River Valley.  It is typically a sweet red dessert wine and also comes in dry, semi-dry and white varieties.  The white ports are often served as an apéritif.

Over a hundred varieties of grapes are sanctioned for Port production.  The most widely cultivated varieties are:

  • Tinta Barroca
  • Tinta Cão
  • Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo)
  • Touriga Francesa
  • Touriga Nacional

Port wine adds a wonderful flavour as an ingredient in many dishes, both sweet and savoury. Read More...
