DESCRIPTION

The nose of this inky purple colored wine is rich and complex with aromas of blueberry and cassis with a hint of spearmint. The palate is supple and tannic with lip-smacking caramel and French vanilla sappiness followed by a ripe cassis finish. The wine has balanced acidity and firm tannins and worth aging for a few years. This Petite Sirah is perfect as an evening sipper. Try it with thin crust pizzettas topped with shaved Asiago cheese and wild mushrooms or Margarita with sun-dried and fresh tomatoes with Opal basil. Enjoying it with good sirloin burger served with white cheddar, smoked bacon and grilled onions is always a sure bet.

Varietal

Petite Sirah wines are popular with US consumers.  It is a rich red wine with dark hue and firm tannins. This is a grape variety which produces an excellent red wine that's very dark and often described as "peppery." These wines also have a dense blackberry fruit character.  The grape’s similarity to parent Syrah became confusing for early California vintners.  Today, Petite Sirah is predominantly planted in California, where it does well.

The grape variety known as "Petite Sirah" in California is the same as the French variety Durif.   DNA evidence confirmed this in 1997.  Petite Sirah is related to the true Syrah of the Rhone Valley and the old French variety Peloursin. Read More...
