Petite Sirah is big flavorful red wine that has deep Californian roots, but is neither Petite, nor Syrah like. Our Petite Sirah is comes from the Central Coast whose cooler weather allows the berries to develop soft fruit without the harsh tannins that sometimes accompany these little berries. This wine starts with aromas of boysenberry and blueberries, then evolving into flavors of spice accentuated by rich dark chocolate. With a creamy, rich body, this wine finishes in a long and soft manner. Pair with juicy pork tenderloin with a Petite Sirah reduction.
Petite Sirah wines are popular with US consumers. It is a rich red wine with dark hue and firm tannins. This is a grape variety which produces an excellent red wine that's very dark and often described as "peppery." These wines also have a dense blackberry fruit character. The grape’s similarity to parent Syrah became confusing for early California vintners. Today, Petite Sirah is predominantly planted in California, where it does well. The grape variety known as "Petite Sirah" in California is the same as the French variety Durif. DNA evidence confirmed this in 1997. Petite Sirah is related to the true Syrah of the Rhone Valley and the old French variety Peloursin. Read More...
