Late Bottle Vintage Ports (LBVs) are made from grapes of a single year. They are aged in oak casks for up to 6 years before being bottled, at which point they are ready to drink and being lightly filtered require no decanting.Cockburns LBV is an intense assertive wine with bags of character. It is youthful and impulsive in style, deep red in colour and with aromas of damson, mulberry, summer fruits and chocolate. It leaves an intense sensation on the palate, and has a full feel, with some complexity from its wood ageing. The fortified element is well married to the wine presenting a harmonious balanced feel. The finish is long and attractive.
This wine comes from the Symington familys Douro Valley vineyards in Northern Portugal, and in particular from those which traditionally supply the House of Dows, one of the familys premier Port marques. The grapes are principally sourced from Dows Bomfim and Senhora da Ribeira vineyards, as well as from other vineyards, which have long supplied the company. The grape variety mix is: 30% Tinta Barroca, 25% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca, 15 Tinta Roriz and 5% Tinto Cão.
Cockburns Fine Ruby Port is a blend of young wines from different vintages, aged for three years in large wood casks. Youthful in character it has a vibrant red-to-purple color and fresh, grapey aromas. On the palate, this grapeyness is overlaid with notes of raspberry, plum and spice. It has a generous, rounded mouth feel and a ripe, sweet character.Fine Ruby pairs well with blue veined cheeses, rich chocolate desserts, especially with raspberry sauce, or simply squares of dark chocolate and toasted walnuts.
Taylor Port enjoys an aroma of fresh grapes, with overtones of berries, rich garnet red color and smooth, silky finish.--Beverage Testing Institute: Ruby-garnet hue. Dusty, faded fruit aromas show mild red plum and cherry. Soft on the attack, with a medium body and a hint of red fruits. Finishes with a mild note of tannic dryness and a note of sugary sweetness. Deep and lively Ruby color. The wine is full-bodied and has very appealing red fruit driven aromas. On the palate, fresh and youthful with raspberry and cherry flavors, combined with a long and intense finish.
Full-bodied, rich but perfectly balanced with soft peppery tannins and with a fine acidity that ensure perfect balance on the palate.
Taylor Tawny Port has a soft berry, "nutty" aroma, with a bronze color.
