In this spirit of the fundamental blending premise, Winemaker Katie Carter has created this exciting blend of Bordeaux varietals from carefully selected vineyards from the most esteemed corners of Sonoma County. This wines blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot contributes to its unique flavor. Complex flavors of bing cherry and spice dominate the palate and are combined with hints of blackberry and a slight earthy component. This blend of flavors exhibits a good balance between acids and tannins that end with very smooth finish.
This Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of black cherry, currants, cinnamon and rose petals with subtle notes of vanilla and milk chocolate. Tannins are rich and refined on the finish, a characteristic of Red Mountain fruit, with flavors of berries, dried fruit and cocoa that lingers forever.
The essence of time is expressed in Opus One by the character of each vintage. Place, often defined as terroir, represents the geography, the climate and the essential human element which is captured in the wines balance between power and finesse, structure and texture.
The fruit for our full-bodied Meritage hails from prime vineyards in Californias coastal region, where cool ocean breezes slow the pace of ripening and promote optimal flavor development. This richly styled red blend is composed of the classic Bordeaux varietals: Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The nose and palate brim with notes of ripe blackberry, mulberry and blueberry, framed by hints of violet and mulling spices. On the mid-palate, flavors of dark chocolate, cinnamon and Tahitian vanilla prevail. Powerful, chewy tannins support the lengthy finish, redolent with brown sugar, caramel and oak notes.
